Women's Media Group, Inc is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization created by Maya Friedler, and others, to encourage, promote and participate in the public dialogue of women's issues from a feminist perspective, via film, radio, recordings, and the Internet, as well as through live productions and forums.

Women's Media Group provides a platform for discussion and resources to community organizations, and individuals, who are exploring feminism via research, archiving history, writing, recording, and creating art. By hearing from, and collaborating with others, Women’s Media Group challenges gender inequality in areas of politics, public health, the law, and social mores, while acknowledging, identifying and contributing to the progress made in various areas.

Women's Media Executive Director/talk.in Co-Producer MAYA FRIEDLER

An independent radio and video producer, Maya Friedler most recently produced ISA: The People’s Diva, a documentary film for public television on the life and music of Isa Kremer, distributed by Women Make Movies. Maya is the President of the Women’s Media Group, Inc. and has served as producer and moderator of WBEZ public affairs program, Talk In and Public Report. She recently appeared in What Dreams May Come: American Visions Through Jewish Eyes, at the Piven Theatre in Evanston, directed by Joyce Piven. Maya is an ensemble member at the Piven Theatre, and has been seen in Eurydice, Collected Stories and Great Expectations. She has also appeared with the Shattered Globe and Bailiwick theatres. A lifelong political activist, Maya was a legislative aid for Il State Representative Esther Saperstein, and ran as an alternate delegate for Eugene McCarthy, and a meeting organizer for Women for Peace. Maya has recently been featured in the book “Feminists Who Changed America: 1963-1975”.

Women's Media Creative Director/talk.in Co-Producer JAMIE O’REILLY

A strong force in the Chicago area arts arena for over 25 years, Jamie is a critically acclaimed vocalist, cultural arts producer, activist, consultant, writer, essayist, and teaching artist. She is the owner of J. O’Reilly Productions, cultural arts agency. Jamie has a B.M. from DePaul University School of Music. She appears as a guest speaker for Arts and women’s organizations. Jamie is a registered arts consultant with the IL Arts Council, and is listed on the IL Arts Council Registry, Chicago Artist Resource Roster, Feminist Majority Artist’s Roster, Women’s Art Network, and the Beacon St. Registry. Jamie is on the Board of Directors of Celtic Women International. She is a Teaching Artist at artScape: Harold Washington College and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and is a contributor to Chicago Artists Resource. Jamie performs as a soloist, and in the Jamie O’Reilly Trio with Michael Smith and cellist Bob Weber. She creates programs with a focus on women’s issues and social justice. Jamie starred in Hello Dali: From the Sublime to the Surreal, an award-winning musical revue, which she co-created, during Victory Gardens Theater’s Tony winning season. Music from her recording Pasiones: Songs of the Spanish Civil War can be heard in the film Into the Fire: Women in the Spanish Civil War, a film by Julia Newman. Jamie produced Imperfect Balance: The Power and Beauty of Creating Art Out of Trauma, an art series, for Women’s Arts Series Connective (WASC) at the Irish American Heritage Center. www.myspace.com/jamieoreillymusic 


talk.in Audio Producer CAT JARBOE

Cat Jarboe has been in Broadcasting on the fringe and in the fray since 1987. A full time Sound Engineer, Producer, Media Editor and Independent Journalist, Cat cut her teeth on community and commercial radio in Nebraska during her high school and college days at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where she received her B.S. in Journalism. She moved to Chicago 13 years ago and co-founded the ensemble theatre group The Billy Goat Experiment. Cat is still an active a writer and performer with the ensemble and has a diverse resume of original work and installations. She has also produced a number of original radio serials and is currently producing an online variety show combining sketches and music. Cat contributes written online journals and interviews focusing on healthcare in Illinois and across the Nation. As part of the Illinois Media Progressives team, Cat combines her written work with audio and video production to create a dynamic vehicle for sharing information to online activists. She is currently working with activist Donna Smith from the documentary SiCKO to produce an online series of healthcare updates and action forums. Cat is also assisting Rep. Mary Flowers in organizing and publicizing a series of statewide healthcare public hearings. She currently is the Chief Engineer at CRIS Radio at the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind and has been with CRIS, The Chicagoland Radio Information Service, for over 12 years.
